Choosing place… I spent a recent summer day with three close friends – one from Duluth and two from the cities. We talked about our career history. They had all moved between many companies and/or communities as they progressed up the career ladder. In my own career path, I chose to stay in northeastern Minnesota. Between 1975 and 2013, I held three “jobs”. There was no career ladder, especially for women. I created my own career ladder, building my “job” as my skills improved, evolved. It is why entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking is such a critical option in rural communities. In some places, it is the only option. Let’s get creative about opportunities!
